Netflix has confirmed the digital premiere date of Tamil movie Iraivan, which stars Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in the lead roles. The movie will make its OTT streaming debut on October 26, less than a month after its theatrical release.

Iraivan came out in cinemas on September 28 amid huge expectations. The movie's trailer was a big hit, promising the audiences a spine-chilling serial killer drama.

Iraivan was expected to achieve commercial success similar to Por Thozhil, which became one of the biggest box office hits in Tamil this year. Por Thozhil was also an investigativer thriller, which followed two cops, who are racing against the clock to stop a serial killer from claiming more innocent victims.

However, upon its theatrical release, Iraivan garnered poor reviews, with many expressing disappointment over its slow pace and weak screenplay. And as a result, Iraivan tanked at the box office.

The plot of Iraivan

Judging from the trailer, filmmaker I. Ahmed seems to have pulled no punches in portraying gruesome violence in the movie. The movie seems to draw a lot of inspiration from the slasher genre in terms of its visual style.

Iraivan, which is Tamil for God, tells the story of a series of gruesome murders of young women. However, there is a twist in the narrative. Unlike usual serial killer movies, it doesn't follow a whodunit trope. Instead, it reveals the identity of its main villain at the very beginning.

Rahul Bose essays the role of Brahma, aka Smiley Killer, who abducts and brutally kills young women. The cops and almost everyone seem to know his identity, yet he continues to claim the lives of his victims. How is that possible?

On the other hand, Jayam Ravi plays the role of a cop, who works on the fringes of the law. He engages in extra-judicial killing without an iota of guilt. And Nayanthara plays his love interest in the movie.

Iraivan also stars Vinoth Kishan, Vijayalakshmi, Narain, Ashish Vidyarthi, Azhagam Perumal and Bagavathi Perumal.
