The sequel to the 2015 Pixar film Inside Out will be in theatres in June 2024
Pixar’s 2015 film Inside Out was about 11-year-old Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), who is not thrilled about her family’s move from Minnesota to San Fransisco. As if being a precocious pre-teen wasn’t stressful enough, Riley also has to handle the move, and attempt to adjust to her new environment, all of which takes a toll on her emotions. Her internal turmoil, fuelled by the tussle between her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader) and Anger (Lewis Black) – was at the centre of Inside Out.
Now, eight years later, the sequel arrives, with a story about Riley as a teen, who now has a sixth emotion to contend with – anxiety. According to the official post that accompanied a teaser, things are about to get messy. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. Anxiety is voiced by Maya Hawke and while she might be new to the crew, she’s not really the type to take a back seat, explains Mann, adding, “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.”

In the teaser, headquarters undergoes a sudden demolition to make room for a new emotion – Anxiety – who, as it turns out, may not be operating solo, referring to it as ‘We’. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith are the only returning voice casts as Joy and Sadness, respectively, while Lewis Black fills in as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. The film is expected to release on June 14, 2024 in cinemas.
