Ini Utharam, helmed by debutant Sudheesh Ramachandram, also has Harish Uthaman and Kalabhavan Shajohn in pivotal roles
National Award-winner Aparna Balamurali’s latest Malayalam theatrical release Ini Utharam’s OTT rights have been bagged by a leading platform, which is set to drop the movie soon.
The film, helmed by debutant Sudheesh Ramachandran, has a star cast featuring Aparna, Harish Uthaman, Kalabhavan Shajohn, G Chandunath, Jaffer Idukki, Siddique and Sidharth Menon. The movie released in theatres in October, and is one of those few Malayalam films that have had a delayed OTT release.

The investigative thriller revolves around Aparna’s character Dr Janaki, who turns up at a police station confessing that she had killed a man and would reveal the details of the murder and the place the body is buried to the circle inspector. While the cops have their initial doubts about the case, what unravels after they take Dr Janaki to the murder site shocks not just the police but also the state’s machinery. This prompts SP Ilavarasan (Harish Uthaman) to take charge of the prolific case, but is there more than what meets the eye as not everything that Dr Janaki had confessed is true.
The film was lauded for its first half which sets up an intriguing plot. However, this is undone by haphazard writing in the latter half. Kalabhavan Shajohn, Harish Uthaman and Aparna stand out in their roles in the movie, which could have been riveting had it a tighter second half.
Ini Utharam’s OTT rights have been bagged by ZEE5, which is expected to begin streaming the movie on December 23. ZEE5 is also expected to drop Arjun Ashokan’s Thattassery Kootam in December.
The film’s music is composed by Hridayam music director Hesham Abdul Wahab, with Ranjith Unni handling its script, Jithin DK its editing and Ravichandran its cinematography.
