Netflix is preparing to introduce a captivating documentary series titled "The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth," which delves deep into the infamous Sheena Bora murder case. The series explores the involvement of Indrani Mukerjea, who gained notoriety for her alleged role in Sheena's 2012 death, a case that garnered attention in 2015. With the recent unveiling of an intriguing poster and the subsequent release of the trailer, anticipation for the show's debut is at a peak. Amidst this anticipation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an application before a special court in Mumbai on Saturday, seeking a halt to the release of a documentary series focusing on Indrani Mukerjea, the primary accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Indrani Mukerjea’s Netflix documentary lands in trouble?

As reported by news agency PTI, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday moved an application before a special court in Mumbai seeking a stay on a documentary series on Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.

The CBI, through public prosecutor CJ Nandode, requested the court in its application, “to issue direction to accused and other concerned for staying/stopping the featuring of the accused persons and the persons connected with the case in the documentary by Netflix and its broadcasting on any platform till the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”

CBI Special Judge SP Naik-Nimbalkar issued notices to Netflix Entertainment Services India and other relevant parties, requesting their response to the application. The hearing regarding the application has been scheduled for February 20.

What was the case about?

In a distressing event, Sheena Bora (24) was reportedly strangled to death in a car by her stepmother Indrani Mukerjea, along with her then-driver Shyamvar Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna, in April 2012. Bora was Indrani's daughter from a previous relationship. Her charred remains were discovered in a forest in the neighboring Raigad district of Maharashtra. The details of Bora's murder came to light in 2015 when driver Shyamvar Rai disclosed the incident after his arrest in an unrelated case. Indrani was arrested in August 2015 and was granted bail in May 2022. Rai, Khanna, and Indrani's former husband Peter Mukerjea are also released on bail in connection with the case.
