The movie, helmed by M Padmakumar, also has Suraj Venjaramoodu and Aditi Ravi
Considering one of Indrajith Sukumaran’s best characters – Vattu Jayan in Left Right Left – was a cop, it’s no wonder that he has now become a go-to actor to play roles donning the khaki and boots. His role in the upcoming movie Pathaam Valavu could have the intensity that matches up with Vattu Jayan.
In a pre-release event held in Kochi on Saturday, the actor, who will be playing police inspector Sethu in M Padmakumar’s directorial, explained what sets the role apart from his recent outings as a cop in films such as Kurup and Night Drive.
“The movie is an emotional drama with thriller elements,” said Indrajith. “Though it has only a few characters, it has a lot of scope for performance. That’s how its scriptwriter Abhilash Pillai has handled its screenplay. While I have been doing back-to-back cop roles, this is probably the most intense role in recent times. The character has a lot of depth.”
Indrajith also said that he was happy he got to work with Joseph and Mamangam director Padmakumar. “While I have known him for 20 years, this is the first film we are doing together,” he said. “Also, it’s the first time Suraj and I have such a combination in a movie.”
Suraj, who had recently teamed up with Indrajith’s brother Prithviraj for Jana Gana Mana, plays a convict in the movie. His character Solomon violates his parole conditions and is on the run in the film, based on a real-life incident.
The National Award-winning actor, who played a cop in Jana Gana Mana, said, “Pathaam Valavu is also about law and justice. Although it’s supposed to be delivered equally to everyone, some people are deprived of it.”
The movie, which is set to hit theatres on May 13, also has Ajmal Amir, Aditi Ravi, Swasika Vijay and Major Ravi in pivotal roles.
