Samarjit Lankesh and Saanya Iyer are the lead pair in Indrajit Lankesh's next, Gowri

A few days ago, Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh had released what he called a pre-teaser of his next, Gowri. The film is the debut vehicle of his son, Samarjit Lankesh, and the pre-teaser gave a glimpse of the youngster’s action prowess. It seemed that Gowri would be an action-packed drama, but with the filmmaker now set to drop the first single from the film, he says that it belongs to a different genre altogether.

“If Premaloka was Kannada cinema’s first major musical, Gowri will be the next. There are a lot of songs, most of which will be a part of the narrative,” says Indrajit, refusing to divulge the exact number of songs, and adding that the first song from the film, composed by Chandan Shetty, will be released on May 10. “Chandan has done only 1 song for Gowri, and I think it will be 2024’s biggest hit. He’s done a phenomenal job,” adds the filmmaker.

Gowri release date

Chandan shares the music department of Gowri with Jassie Gift, Shivu Beragi, Anirudh Shastry and Manu Michael. Gowri is singer Anirudh’s debut as composer. The film will likely be an end of June or early July theatrical release, says Indrajit, who has finished the film’s post-production and is now ready to begin full-fledged promotions.

So far, the filmmaker has been tight-lipped about the subject he has chosen to present with the film, with the trailer perhaps the closest that audiences will get to find out more about Gowri before its theatrical outing. Named after his late sister as a tribute the film is based on true events, with Indrajit maintaining that it has no other connection to the former. The award-winning director has repeatedly said that he considers Gowri his best work to date. The film pairs Samarjit with Puttagowri Maduve and Bigg Boss Kannada OTT fame, Saanya Iyer.
