The filmmaker will launch his son Samarjit Lankesh and Puttagowri Maduve fame Saanya Iyer in the film that will go on floors next week
Earlier today, Kannada filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh held the muhurtha of his first directorial in three years. Called Gauri, the film will be a home production for him, with his wife Arpita stepping in as producer and serving as the launchpad for his son, Samarjit Lankesh. The youngster, who has been studying the craft and getting practical experience on set as an assistant director for filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat (on Garadi and Karataka Dhamanaka), will debut along with Saanya Iyer, best known her role in the popular Kannada serial Puttagowri Maduve. Saanya was more recently seen as a contestant on the Kannada reality show, Bigg Boss Kannada OTT Season 1 and Bigg Boss Kannada Season 9.

Speaking at the muhurtha, Indrajit explained that although the film is based on true events, it is not based on his late sister, Gauri Lankesh. The title, he said, is a tribute to Gauri. The film, he said, will boast a stellar ensemble cast, which will be revealed in the days to come. Kabzaa fame AJ Shetty serves as cinematographer, Kaviraj as lyricist, while three music directors, including Jassie Gift and Chandan Shetty will work on the film.

The muhurtha was held at a temple in Bengaluru, which, Indrajit reminisced, was also the venue for his film Aishwarya. Led by Upendra, Aishwarya was the debut vehicle of Deepika Padukone, who, he said, has gone on to achieve international acclaim. It, therefore, made sense to him to launch his son at the same venue. For Arpita, who is a software professional, Gauri will serve as her debut as producer, a decision that came about during story discussions for Samarjit’s launch. “We liked one story and when the topic of production came up, we wondered why not do it ourselves,” she said at the muhurtha.
