Indian, the blockbuster Kamal Haasan-starrer directed by Shankar, had its re-release recently. However, the 1996-released film failed to recreate the magic of Vijay’s Ghilli in theatres.
Indian, the 1996-released blockbuster vigilante action film remains one of the biggest hits in Kamal Haasan’s career. The movie, directed by hitmaker Shankar, featured Ulaganayagan in a double role as Veerasekaran Senapathy and his son, Chandru. Ahead of the release of the film’s highly anticipated sequel Indian 2, the makers re-released the much-loved first installment in theatres, recently. However, Indian failed to recreate the magic of Thalapathy Vijay’s Ghilli, which had a dream re-release run across the globe.
As per the recent updates, Indian re-release has left the audiences deeply disappointed, especially due to the poor audio and visual quality of the print. While the Thalapathy Vijay-Dharani starrer Ghilli set the screens on fire with the excellent quality of its remastered print, the Kamal Haasan-starrer ended up as a forgettable experience for the audiences. Many cine-goers recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and revealed that the Shankar directorial ended up as one of the most underwhelming theatrical experiences for them.
“Indian one of the worst re-release restorations for @srisuryamovies, They just scanned negative, restored, ungraded, and delivered to theatres. Hope they should have shown to @shankarshanmugh before releasing it. Visual Magic & Sound of Indian lost in restoration” wrote a disappointed cine-goer. “Indian rerelease was just badly done work...if you can't do the work properly please don't say we have done remastering. It looked like oil painting most of the time,” reads a netizen’s post. Meanwhile, the Kamal Haasan fans, who are happy to witness the Shankar magic onscreen yet again, shared some exciting visuals from the theatres on X.
