Indian 2, Viduthalai Part 2, Jigarthanda Double X to Sarpatta 2: Sequels gearing up for release in Tamil cinema

Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2, in the meantime, is running successfully in theatres

Director Venkat Prabhu took everyone by surprise when he announced that his upcoming film would have a sequel. With Mani Ratnam's second instalment of Ponniyin Selvan, too, having hit screens only a couple of weeks ago, it looks like there will be many more sequels in the offing. Here are a few sequels that are currently under production.

Indian 2
The shoot for the long-delayed Indian 2 is finally happening at brisk pace. The film's director Shankar and lead actor Kamal Haasan have been travelling across the world to shoot some heavy-duty action sequences for the film, which is slated to hit screens this year. Ulaganayan will be back as his iconic character Senapathy.

Viduthalai 2
While the first instalment of Vetri Maaran's duology was critically acclaimed by critics and audience alike, the team is now busy working on the second instalment. The film, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, has raised the expectations from Kumaresan and Perumal Vaathiyar.

Sarpatta Parambarai 2
There was absolutely no hint about a sequel to this period sports drama. So, when director Pa Ranjith and Arya announced a sequel, fans began rooting for Kabilan Chellaiah and Rangan Vaathiyar. Arya is prepping for his character. Santhosh Narayanan has returned as the music director.

Jigarthanda Double X
The highly anticipated sequel of Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda stars SJ Suryah, Raghavan Lawrence and Nimisha Sajayan.The shoot for the film is currently underway. SJ Suryah had shared that he was mighty impressed by the way Karthik Subbaraj shot the film.

Pichaikkaran 2
Pichaikkaran 2 marks the comeback of Vijay Antony as the lead actor, but this time around, he is also editing, directing, producing and composing music for the film. The plot revolves around the murder of a business tycoon Vijay Gurumoorthy who is killed by Vijay Antony's character in the film.

Thupparivalan 2
After wrapping up Mark Antony, Vishal is likely to resume work on his directorial debut Thupparivalan 2. The film is said to be a sequel to Mysskin's Thupparivalan. While Mysskin was supposed to helm the sequel, he walked out after creative differences cropped up between him and Vishal.

Chandramukhi 2
P Vasu, who directed Chandramukhi, is back with the sequel. Though there is no clarity on whether the film would take off from Chandramukhi, the shoot is almost wrapped. The sequel stars Kangana Ranaut, Raghava Lawrence, Radikaa Sarathkumar to name a few.

Demonte Colony 2
The film, Demonte Colony 2, is said to be the second one in the horror thriller series which the film's director Ajay Gnanamuthu said will be made as a franchise. Arulnithi is back and this time around, giving him company is his Priya Bhavani Shankar.

Mayavan Reloaded
The second chapter of the sci-fi series Maayavan is back as Maayavan Reloaded. The film's director and producer CV Kumar stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead. The pre-production work is on and the first-look poster showed a man in space.

Aranmanai 4

The fourth film in the Aranmanai series will mark the return of Sundar C as a director. Though Vijay Sethupathi was supposed to play the lead, he walked out of the film. It looks like Sundar C himself will fill in for the lead actor, with Raashi Khanna and Tamaanaah playing the leading ladies.

Some of the other sequels that are in the pipeline in the near future include Vendhu Thanindathu Kaadu 2, Kaithi 2, Maanaadu 2, Vada Chennai 2 and Aayirathil Oruvan 2.
