Netizens troll Kamal Haasan's looks in Indian 2

The cine-goers, who loved the first installment Indian which was released in 1996 (currently streaming on Aha Tamil), are disappointed with how the character Veerasekharan Senapathy is portrayed in the sequel. For the uninitiated, Senapathy is a 70-year-old freedom fighter who struggles with health issues, and even has a problem with walking, in the first installment in the franchise. However, when it comes to Indian 2, Kamal Haasan’s legendary character is shown as a veteran martial arts expert in his 100s (yes, you read it right). He fights like a superhero, six pack abs, and does almost everything in a superhero way.

However, this major transformation has not impressed Tamil cinema lovers. Instead, Kamal Haasan’s looks in the film and the gravity-defying stunts are now being brutally trolled by the netizens. The cine-goers have made their displeasure clear, by criticizing how director Shankar made a memorable character a mere caricature, in the second installment which no one asked for. The netizens are now even wondering if the bizarre idea of Indian Thatha sporting a six-pack in one of the fight sequences was conceived by a genius filmmaker like Shankar.

“The biggest reason audience rooted for Senapathy in Indian 1 was how grounded and vulnerable he was. He was an old man who couldn't even walk properly. His only strength was his Varma Kalai. In Indian 2 he is riding a unicycle, and creating 6 packs and muscles at will,” wrote a frustrated internet user. “Senathipathi was in his 60s probably in Indian 1 that came out in 1996... What timeline is the sequel shot in? Because, surely Sankar or Kamal isn't dumb enough to portray a 90-year-old with six packs?” reads another fan post.

Indian 2 is now set to make a grand opening at the worldwide box office, with an impressive first-day collections. The movie is expected to open to decent numbers, especially in Tamil Nadu and the neighboring state of Kerala. However, it is yet to be seen if the Kamal Haasan starrer will survive at the box office in the upcoming week, with all the negative reviews pouring in.
