Indian 2 director Shankar opens up about Kamal Haasan’s dedication; makes an interesting revelation

Indian 2 director Shankar recently opened up about reuniting with Kamal Haasan for the film. He also made some interesting revelations about the legend’s dedication to the project.

Indian 2, the highly anticipated movie which stars Kamal Haasan in the titular role is set to hit the theatres soon. The promotional campaign for the political thriller directed by Shankar was kickstarted today with the trailer launch event held in Chennai. At the event, the celebrated filmmaker extensively spoke about teaming up with Kamal Haasan after a long gap of 28 years, for the film. Shankar also opened up about the legendary actor’s dedication to the role and made an interesting revelation.

Shankar about Kamal Haasan’s dedication to Indian 2

The veteran filmmaker, who is all excited about Indian 2, revealed that Kamal Haasan’s process for the movie was much elaborated, compared to its famous first part, Indian. According to Shankar, the legendary actor shot his portions with prosthetics in 40 days, the first part. However, for the second part, he had to be in Senapathy’s look for more than 70 days. The multi-faceted talent dedicated himself to the film and the character, without any complaints.

Kamal Haasan’s make-up for the 90-year-old character in the film used to take over 3 hours to complete. After finishing the same, the legend only used to have liquid food, as eating normally would spoil the look. The leading man used to spend around 2 hours on the sets even after wrapping up the shoot, just to remove his make-up. Even then, he used to arrive at the sets first every day, and get ready before everyone.

Recreating the magic of Indian

According to Shankar, witnessing Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian Thatha’ get-up for the first time on the sets of Indian 28 years back was a surreal experience. However, the director felt the same emotion, when he witnessed the legendary actor getting back to the same look, after over 25 years on the sets of Indian 2. Shankar added that Haasan’s dedication to his craft, even after all these years, is just unmatched.

The filmmaker also pointed out how they had to use thick prosthetics in Indian, as the make-up was not so advanced at that time. But in Indian 2, Shankar was very particular about showing Kamal Haasan’s natural facial features on screen. So, the director particularly asked the make-up team to use the thinnest prosthetics possible, to create the look of Senapathy.
