Shweta Basu Prasad, Aahana Kumra, Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar, and Prakash Balewadi play the lead roles in the film.
The trailer for ZEE5's most recent original movie, India Lockdown, has been released. Madhur Bhandarkar's direct-to-digital film is the first Hindi feature film to look at the COVID-19 pandemic and how it affected Indian society. The movie was written by Amit Joshi, Aradhana Sah, and Madhur Bhandarkar. Hrishitaa Bhatt makes a cameo appearance, and the main actors are Shweta Basu Prasad, Aahana Kumra, Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar, and Prakash Balewadi.
India Lockdown was made by Dr. Jayantilal Gada of PEN Studios, Madhur Bhandarkar of Bhandarkar Entertainment, and Pranav Jain of P J Motion Pictures. It will have its international premiere on November 21 at IFFI Goa and its world digital premiere on December 2 at ZEE5. The movie, shot in 2021, tells the story of four people in parallel who are thrust into extreme situations by the lockdown brought on by the coronavirus.
As shown in the teaser, Shweta Basu Prasad plays Mehrunissa, a sex worker in Mumbai's Kamathipura who is forced to adapt to the changes caused by the lockdown and try out new ways to do business online. Moon Alves is played by Aahana Kumra. She is a pilot who is used to flying high in the sky but is suddenly grounded for a few months. This is the first time she has had her wings clipped. Migrant workers like Prateik Babbar, who plays Madhav, and Sai Tamhankar, who plays Phoolmati, lose their main source of income because of the pandemic. Because trains and other local transportation are shut down, they have to either starve or walk home. The final character is Nageshwar, played by Prakash Belawadi. He is an elderly man who is stranded in a different place than his daughter at a crucial point in her life. Will every one of them make it through the India Lockdown's uncertainty, fear, and powerlessness?
In a statement, Shweta said that everyone experienced the lockdown of uncertainty, including sex workers. When people inquired about her preparation for the character of a sex worker, she replied that it was just another role in a human being's journey. As an actress, Shweta has the opportunity to play a wide variety of parts. She did a lot of studies, and Madhur and the team even drove her to Kamathipura in Mumbai, where she observed the body language, dialect, and habits of the sex workers. The universality of human emotions also became clear to her. Whether it's a commercial sex worker or the reader of this post, it is important to hear everyone's stories on the lockdown.
According to Aahana, loneliness, like anxiety and despair, became a highly important topic of talk throughout the pandemic. That is precisely what her tale in India Lockdown highlights. Everything stops because of the pandemic, and she plays the key role of a pilot. She is a fiercely independent woman who hustles her way to success and a great job. In her story, the actor describes how she deals with her loneliness and tries to make friends while everything is on lockdown. Aahana had a great time working with Madhur, and it's a very intriguing portion. She's delighted she got to work with him since he's a feminist who enjoys writing about women. It's a dream come true, and she genuinely hopes that the public will adore this movie and connect with all of the characters.
Even though Prateik said that everyone had read about how hard it was for migrant workers after the lockdown in 2020, he didn't expect to see them in a Madhur Bhandarkar movie two years later. He got to know them better as a migrant worker in India Lockdown and witnessed firsthand the uncertainty and challenges they faced during the two most difficult years of their lives. The actor hopes that this movie resonates with viewers everywhere and that it inspires people to be more kind to one another.
Sai shared that this film is honest, authentic, and full of emotions. She's happy she got to work with Madhur on this movie since he is a genius who knows how to read the audience and what they will enjoy and relate to. He might try to get actors to be honest and unfiltered, which would show their rawness.
According to Prakash Belawadi, the lockdown affected everyone. Each of them had to learn how to deal with the lockdown and work on their own without help. People had to learn new skills, manage many tasks digitally, and even adjust to virtual interactions rather than face-to-face meetings. This movie addresses all of that and more. People of all ages and from all over the world will be able to relate to this movie because of how similarly COVID-19 affected us.
