Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is a self-confessed fan of DC fan. But, he has taken inspiration from Marvel for his latest movie Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay.
Thalapathy Vijay's latest movie Leo took a grand opening in cinemas worldwide on October 19. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has promised several surprises in the movie for the fans of Vijay. While some cannot be discussed without revealing the spoilers, we can share one thing that won't affect your chances of being surprised.
In Leo, Thalapathy Vijay is introduced with a brand-new title card. And what's more, the new onscreen intro to Vijay has written Marvel all over it. Just like the iconic introduction featured at the opening of Marvel Studios' movies and shows, Vijay's entrance is executed through the pages of a graphic novel. The colour palette and visuals bear a striking resemblance to the distinctive style of Marvel comics.

Lokesh Kanagaraj is a DC guy!
Surprisingly, Lokesh is a self-confessed fan of DC. For example, his previous movie Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, echoed several influences of the DC. Lokesh had admitted that the entire lighting of Vikram was arranged to mimic the Batman trilogy and Kamal applying mascara under his eyes before wearing his mask was inspired by director M, att Reeves' The Batman.
And yet, when it came to providing a superhero-esque introduction for the protagonist in Leo, Lokesh took inspiration from the Marvel studio.

If you didn't know, Leo is also inspired by a graphic book novel. A History of Violence, created by John Wagner and Vince Locke is the original source material of this movie. But, this graphic novel is not associated with either Marvel or DC.
It's also noteworthy that Lokesh had created a new title intro for Vijay in Master and it has remained in rotation since. It remains to be seen whether Lokesh's new Vijay intro will also be used by other filmmakers in their films.
Besides Vijay, Leo also stars Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Gautham Menon and others.
