In the year of revivals and throwbacks, came back a face that we all dearly loved but was missing for close to a decade. Imran Khan’s reprise in pop culture and the craving for his return to the big screen is something that many intellectuals will dissect in years to come. No one knows what reminded the internet of this budding lover boy who chose to go on a long hiatus. But long before he took that break, he gave us one of the best movies of all time, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The film, one of the most loved and defining for a generation, has left the audience wanting more. But Imran has now crushed our hopes.

Since 2008, fans of the film and Khan have been asking for a sequel to the movie that also starred Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh, Prateik Babbar, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Naseeruddin Shah. It's been over fifteen years, and none from the team have ever spoken about the sequel to it. Now Imran Khan has spoken about the possibility of a sequel and dashed all our hopes as he has said a sequel makes no sense.

In a conversation with Vogue, when he was asked about a sequel to Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Imran Khan did have a valid point when he said a sequel does not make sense for a movie that is, in a way, complete. “But for my part, it was the journey of Jai from boyhood to manhood. It is the story of two young people growing up, understanding what they seek in a partner, and finding their way to love. It culminates so nicely that I don’t know what additional emotional growth you could have for these characters.”

About Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, written and directed by Abbas Tyrewala with AR Rahman's hit music album, is about a group of friends who are fresh graduates and navigating through the growing up of life. At the center of it were Jai and Aditi played by Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh respectively, who were in love but also in denial. The movie spoke to the masses and was, in a way, the cultural ambassador for the youth for a very long time.

While Imran Khan has a point about it being a complete story for Jai, there must be some scope for a revival. Maybe a reunion where the gang meets, and we all know that’s the USP. The film began with them meeting at the airport and reminiscing about the good old days. So there is a possibility. Maybe make them fight and come together after all these years of living together or something else. But the fan in us is in dire need of a sequel to the film we have loved dearly. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is streaming on Netflix, go relive the era.

Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
