The series is the result of a deal Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures struck with Apple TV+ back in July 2020
Idris Elba is all set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller drama series, Hijack. The hostage thriller that takes to the skies will see the actor reportedly play the role of a negotiator.
According to a report by Deadline, the show will feature Elba as Sam Nelson, an accomplished business negotiator forced to use his guile to save the lives of passengers onboard a hijacked plane making its way to London.
The show will also see the actor on board as an executive producer, with 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions making an association with Elba’s Green Door Pictures. The series is written by George Kay, who is the creator of Elba’s Lupin and Criminal. Jim Field Smith, the co-founder of Idiotlamp is directing the project.
Elba’s Green Door has been behind recent projects such as BBC2’s Idris Elba: Fight School, the Netflix comedy Turn Up Charlie and The Long Run for Sky. Hijack is the first project as the result of Green DoorProduction striking a first-look deal with Apple TV+ back in July 2020.
Elba, who last appeared in Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, was also part of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The actor voiced Knuckles the Echidna in the sequel, which has reportedly become the fifth highest grossing film of the year.
Elba is also filming a feature-length Luther for the BBC and Netflix. The movie will see the British actor reprise his role as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther from his highly-acclaimed show of the same name.
