Identity release update: Tovino Thomas, Trisha Krishnan’s film pushed to 2025?

Identity, the upcoming Akhil Paul-Anas Khan directorial which features Tovino Thomas and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, might not hit the theatres in December 2024, as expected.

Tovino Thomas is reuniting with Akhil Paul and Anas Khan the director duo who made the acclaimed crime thriller Forensic for his next outing in Malayalam cinema. The project, titled Identity, has been under production for quite some time now. Trisha Krishnan is making a comeback to Malayalam cinema with the much-awaited project, which was supposed to be released in December 2024, as a Christmas special release. But the latest updates suggest that Identity’s release has been pushed to 2025.

Identity pushed to January 2025?

According to the grapevine, the release of Identity, which marks Tovino Thomas’ first onscreen collaboration with Trisha Krishnan, has been pushed to January 2025. The makers are reportedly planning to release the crime thriller on January 2, 2025, as one of the first Malayalam releases of the year. If the reports are to be believed, the makers of Identity decided to push the release, to avoid a box office clash with other major Christmas releases of 2024, including Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz and Aashiq Abu’s Rifle Club.

Identity: Here’s what we know

Tovino Thomas is reportedly set to play the role of an investigation officer yet again in Identity, which is touted to be a crime thriller with a touch of action. Trisha Krishnan is playing a performance-oriented character in the film, which features popular actor Vinay Rai and actress-turned-television presenter Mandira Bedi in pivotal roles. The makers are yet to reveal the rest of the star cast of Identity, which is scripted by the director duo, themselves.

Akhil George is the director of photography. Jakes Bejoy has composed the songs and the original score for Identity. Chaman Chakko handles the editing. Identity is jointly produced by Raju Malliath’s home banner Ragam Movies, and Century Films.  Gokulam Gopalan is expected to distribute the Tovino Thomas starrer in theatres, under his home banner Sree Gokulam Movies. The makers are expected to officially announce the Identity release date, along with the film’s official teaser, in a few weeks.
