IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack

Anubhav Sinha, who is known for films like Thappad, Article 15, and Ra. One is all set to release a big-scale series titled IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack on Netflix. The show, which is based on the Kandahar hijacking by a Pakistani terrorist group in 1999, was announced today.

The announcement video starts with Vijay Varma's voice, who is the captain of the flight, letting the passengers know that the plane has been hijacked. He is trying his best to get them out of this heartbreaking situation. The video then shows glimpses of other actors from the show, including Pankaj Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Pahwa, and Patralekha. The ensemble cast also includes Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Aditya Srivastav, Anupam Tripathi, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swami, Amrita Puri, Pooja Gaur, Manoj Pahwa, and Yashpal Sharma.

After some more glimpses, the video ends with Naseeruddin's voice, who informs his team, saying, "Kabul tak nahi pohochna chahiye ye plane; we must end this thing here, in India."

With an ensemble cast, the show promises a gripping tale of survival and intrigue!

Sharing the announcement video, the official social media account of Netflix wrote: "The hijack of IC 814, the longest in the history of aviation. 188 passengers stranded inside a plane for 7 days, at times on the ground and at times at 30,000 feet. What did it take to get them back safe? This is the story of those 7 days. A story of resilience, mayhem, skill and tact. Based on true events - IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is coming soon, only on Netflix!"

It is to be noted that Hindi Medium director Saket Chaudhry was supposed to direct this show; he was then replaced by Kabir Khan. However, he turned down the show for unknown reasons, and now it has been directed by Anubhav Sinha.

On December 24, 1999, Indian Airlines flight IC 814 was taken over and sent to Kandahar in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. The flight was travelling to New Delhi from Kathmandu. The passengers and crew of the flight suffered for seven days after the hijack. After a lot of struggle, the people were brought back home safely. IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is the account of those seven days that became the longest hijack in Indian history.
