I would get trolled if I said Jaggesh sir’s lines from Thothapuri, says Kiccha Sudeep

Sudeep added that he wouldn’t be able to sell two tickets with a title like Thothapuri, whereas Jaggesh gives it a certain gravitas that will pull crowds.

Kiccha Sudeep was the chief guest at the trailer launch of Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh’s upcoming release, Thothapuri, on Thursday. The film, directed by Vijayaprasad, who made Neer Dose with Jaggesh earlier, is set to release in two parts, with the first likely to hit theatres soon. The trailer, in typical Vijayaprasad-Jaggesh style, is full of double-meaning humour, which some may enjoy, while others could find it distasteful.

At the trailer launch, Sudeep was seen enjoying the comedy and then said, “If I had said any of these lines that Jaggesh sir does in Thothapuri, that would have become major news. When you do, people just laugh. Honestly, I don’t know how you pull it off. I think it is also about the way those lines have been said that is making people laugh and not take objection to it. I would be trolled if I had said any of his lines. Also, imagine if I had a film called Thothapuri; I am sure we’d not sell even two tickets. I am sure even my wife and daughter wouldn’t come for such a film. But when it is a Jaggesh film called Thothapuri, it has a certain weightage. Some movie titles can be carried off only by certain filmmakers and actors.”

Sudeep added that Dhananjaya’s scene in the trailer was quite the goosebump moment, given that the actor is seen asking Suman Ranganath’s character is she has pimple-prone skin or if it is a period-related outbreak. “Dhananjaya, I am not sure about your character in the film, but your entry in the trailer was quite the goosebump moment. He is a very inspiring actor. One of the most intense, organic actors we have; he doesn’t have forced commerciality in him and is naturally intense,” said Sudeep.

Thothapuri according to the team, is a romantic comedy with a pertinent message to society, predominantly touching upon the need for communal harmony and equality of all, irrespective of cast or creed.
