It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Charlie Day's new film I Want You Back was released on Amazon Prime Video on February 11. It also marks his first-ever lead role in a feature, especially in the romantic comedy genre.
In a statement, Day expressed that he was "thrilled" to be a part of the film. "I was thrilled to be in a romantic comedy because I’m such a fan of so many of them. I loved this script and the structure of the story and thought it would be a great thing to be a part of. And it was exciting for me to play a more grounded, well-rounded human being."
I Want You Back follows two thirty-something strangers Peter (Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate) who on meeting each other realise that they were dumped by their respective partners on the same weekend. However, the two are unwilling to accept that their relationships have come to an end. They team up and hatch a plan to win their exes back.
The Amazon Prime film is directed by Jason Orley from a screenplay by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. The cast also includes Scott Eastwood, Manny Jacinto, Chak Backo and Gina Rodrigues.
Day is also part of an untitled Mario film, based on the Nintendo video game series, where he will be the voice of Luigi. His other upcoming project is El Tonto, where he serves as both director and writer.
