Akshay Oberoi in an interview with OTTplay

He is quite literally the ‘blue-eyed’ boy of Bollywood. After having done films like Fitoor, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Piku and a bunch of others, Akshay Oberoi hit the bull’s eye with the recently released ‘Fighter’, which stars Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and the evergreen Anil Kapoor. Loaded with training in acting and dancing, Akshay’s role in ‘Fighter’ was appreciated by many.
OTTplay caught up with Akshay Oberoi for an exclusive interview! Here are the excerpts:

Don’t you find it ironic to be a part of Fighter, a film whose title symbolises your real life?
Absolutely bang on! Thank you so much for bringing this one to me. I never saw it that way. But I am happy that someone has said this!

You have done itsy bitsy roles with Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor in Piku and Thar repsectively. Now that you got to do a full-fledged role with these two actors, what was the feeling like?
You are so very right! Trust me on this…shooting for Fighter was the best feeling ever. When I was working with Deepika Padukone in Pihu and Anil Kapoor sir in Thar, back of my mind, I was manifesting to work with them in a full-fledged role. And look here it is. That’s why I consider Fighter as an answer to my manifestations.

Who gave you the best compliment for your role in Fighter?
Oh! It was from my son Abhiyaan. Ever since the time he got to know about it, he was so very fascinated about the fact that his father was actually going to be on a fighter jet! I took him to the film’s screening and this was the first time he had ever watched a film in a theatre!

And when the film ended, my son looked at me and said, “Papa, that was so cool”! Ufff… I cannot tell you how I felt at that moment. It's beyond words to even describe how I felt after hearing those words from my son. What else does a father want in life!

Did you ever feel intimidated by the presence of Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor?
No yaa! I just could not afford to get intimidated because, if I do so, then, I will not be able to act with them. Every time I used to report on the sets, I felt confident, happy and deserving to be there! Even though there were lots happening in my mind due to the presence of these stars, I never let my nerves act in the way!

You are literally the ‘blue eyed boy’ of the film industry. Did, at any point, Deepika or anyone else complimented at the colour of your eyes?
(laughs heartily). Unfortunately, no man!

What’s the one thing that was THE most difficult thing to do during the entire film?
Actually, it looks very easy from outside. But the uniform that I wore in the film…. It used to hold my head so tightly, which I just cannot express in words. But, at the end of it all, its all worth it man!

While you had got trained in dance in Broadway Dance Training in New York and acting from Stella Adler in NYC and Playhouse West in LA. Did these training come handy when shooting for Fighter?
Of course yes! Looking back, I had attended dance training only after I saw Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Who knew at that time, after 20 long years, I will be matching my steps with him!
