Human actor Kirti Kulhari on how she enjoys taking up complex and challenging roles

The upcoming Disney+ Hotstar series, which also stars Shefali Shah, will premiere on January 14, 2022.

The upcoming Hotstar Special Human is a show which seeks to venture into an area where few silver screen works have gone before the complicated subject of human drug trials. The show’s lead actor, Kirti Kulhari, recently opened up about the kinds of roles that she is drawn to as an actor and which test her abilities to the limit.

Kulhari shared how she held a particular fascination for the drama genre, as she found the characters to be layered and complicated, roles that pose a challenge for even seasoned actors. Sharing how she enjoys such challenges, the actor revealed that she is drawn to scripts that encompass a wide range of subjects. She found dramas that touched upon difficult themes and told stories about people. Kulhari also said that she was fortunate enough to obtain good dramatic roles, which she said she came by much more often than comedy films. The actor also talked about how she chooses roles for things that "really matter to her" as well.

Also starring Shefali Shah, Human is a fictional story set in the background of human drug testing in India. The series follows the story of a pharmaceutical giant that takes advantage of the country’s lenient clinical trial laws to develop a drug that has potentially fatal side effects. Shah and Kulhari play doctors in the show.

In addition to the duo, the show also features Vishal Jethwa, Ram Kapoor, Seema Biswas, Aditya Srivastava, and Mohan Agashe, among others. The upcoming series is directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Mozez Singh. The latter has also written the show along with Ishani Banerjee.

Human will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar from January 14.
