Filmmaker Prasanth Varma has managed to strike gold at the box office with his latest movie HanuMan, starring relatively newcomer Teja Sajja in the lead role. On Sunday, the movie achieved a new commercial milestone in terms of footfalls across the worldwide theatres.

Prasanth Varma confirmed that HanuMan has drawn about 10 million aka one crore audiences to cinemas around the world. This box office feat has catapulted Prasanth's stature across the Indian film industry. It can be considered as Telugu cinema's first pan-India hit in 2024.

HanuMan is maintaining a strong momentum at the domestic box office despite new arrivals in cinemas. The superhero movie based on India's mythological stories has shattered the expectations of the trade, by earning more than five times its original budget.

According to reports, HanuMan has raked in about Rs 250 crore from its worldwide ticket sales against a budget of less than Rs 30 crore. The producers also recently held a media event to celebrate this achievement, while expressing gratitude to the fans.

The Telugu states and the Hindi heartlands have emerged as the biggest markets for HanuMan even as it managed to make an impression on audiences in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

It seems that HanuMan remains a top choice for audiences despite new releases. The movie's performance is better than Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan's latest movie Fighter. The film marks Hrithik's reunion with director Siddharth Anand after the blockbuster War (2019). The movie was released in cinemas on January 25, coinciding with the Republic Day celebration.

Despite the top star cast and boasting heavy nationalistic vigour, Fighter opened to just Rs 33 crore at the global box office. This was a disappointing start for a movie of this scale and nature. And the low interest in this movie among cinema patrons seems to be adding to the box office momentum of HanuMan.

Besides Teja Sajja, HanuMan also stars Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai.
