The last film in the franchise was directed by Farhad Samji.
Housefull is all set to bring its quirky brand of humour to the silver screen yet again. It was reported that Sajid Nadiadwala, who produced the first four films in the franchise, is planning to develop a fifth Housefull film, which will reunite Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh on screen yet again.
According to a report in Mid Day, Akshay and Riteish will be joined by John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Bobby Deol as well, who have all featured in previous films in the franchise. While Akshay and Riteish have been part of all four housefull films, John, Abhishek and Bobby have been a part of Housefull 2, Housefull 3 and Housefull 4 respectively.
Sajid was reportedly working on a story for the film which would ‘do justice’ to the reunion of the characters. The producer is also working on trying to bring together as many leading ladies of the franchise as possible. The film is touted to be the biggest instalment in the franchise. The report also stated that the makers were trying to take the franchise on floors by the end of next year.
The last instalment in the franchise, Housefull 4, was released in 2019. The Farhad Samji directorial featured Akshay, Riteish, Bobby, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead roles. Sajid Khan, who had directed the first two instalments in the franchise was initially roped in to direct the fourth film as well. But the director exited the film following the allegations of sexual harrassment levied against him in the wake of the Me Too Movement.
Interestingly, the year also marked Sajid Khan’s return to the public eye, when he was announced as a contestant on Bigg Boss season 16. The filmmaker also announced his upcoming film 100%, which stars John, Riteish, Shehnaaz Gill and Nora Fatehi.
