Milly Alcock, who played the young version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, is now all set to star as Supergirl, aka Kara Danvers, in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU. James Gunn made the happy announcement on Instagram with a news snippet and a personal touch.

James Gunn was “blown away” by Milly Alcock’s performance

The acclaimed filmmaker shared a news snippet and confirmed that it was accurate. He further shared his view on her acting mettle by calling her “a fantastically talented young actor”. He exhibited excitement about the skilled acting prodigy’s inclusion in the DC-verse. He admitted that he was not aware of her till her break on House of the Dragon but did not shy away from saying that he was “blown away” by her “varied” auditions and screen tests for Supergirl.

Gunn concluded by calling Milly the embodiment of Kara as “envisioned” by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Noguiera. The Upright actress had defeated two other worthy contenders for the Supergirl crown: CODA star Emilia Jones and DC’s Tomorrowverse Supergirl, voiced by Meg Donnelly. Milly Alcock responded to James Gunn’s announcement and commendation with a story of her own.

Latest updates about Milly Alcock’s standalone Supergirl film and DCU debut

Playwright and screenwriter Ana Noguiera, of The Vampire Diaries fame, has been in charge of the script for Milly Alcock’s solo feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, since November 2023. The standalone feature film was announced last year on DC’s studio press day, but no director has been assigned to it yet. Peter Safran and James Gunn will be producing it.

Watch Tejas, Expendables 4, Australian Open, Cubicles 3, and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack, which provides access to 22 OTTs at just ₹49 for the first month.

However, Milly Alcock will debut as Supergirl in some DC projects before headlining her film. It is rumoured that she will be joining the ranks of James Gunn’s Superman Legacy, which already sports the promising likes of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, David Corenswet as Superman, and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, among others. Superman Legacy is scheduled to commence production in March 2024.
