The trailer for Season 2, episode 5, of House of the Dragon hints at the consequences of the Battle at Rook's Rest. The Blacks and Greens have been drawing nearer to war in each episode of the second season. It all started when Daemon hired two assassins, Blood and Cheese, to kill Jaehaerys, Aegon's six-year-old son. Then, the King and Ser Criston sent Ser Arryk, who pretended to be Ser Erryk, to kill Rhaenyra, but he failed. Rhaenyra gives in to her darker desires and sends the dragons of the Blacks to battle after she and Alicent are unable to reach a peaceful agreement.

The trailer suggests that the parade of Rhaenys' dragon, Meleys, through the streets of King's Landing is the aftermath of the Battle at Rook's Rest. As for Aegon, his brother Aemond is king in his absence, and his fate is unclear; nonetheless, he seems to remain bedridden following his injuries.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4, continues the buildup to the Battle at Rook's Rest. Rosby, Stokeworth, and Duskendale are just a few of the castles that Criston Cole takes for the Greens earlier in the show. At the same time, Aegon's impatience is growing as Criston secretly plots with Aemond to seize Rook's Rest, a small coastal fortress in the Crownlands that has essentially gone rogue. Aegon, who feels completely helpless, tries to regain a sense of strength by taking his dragon, Sunfyre, on a journey to Rook's Rest.

Rhaenys' return to Dragonstone and battle preparations

Rhaenys, meanwhile, makes her way back to Dragonstone, where she is prepared to dispatch one of her dragons to battle. Criston signals for Aemond, hiding on Vhagar, revealing the secret plot: the assault on Rook's Rest is a trap to lure a dragon and tip the odds in their favor. But then Aegon, who is clearly inebriated shows up on dragonback and decides to get involved. Aemond shoots his own brother Aegon, sending him and Sunfyre tumbling to the ground in the forest. Rhaenys dies in a fall, and Vhagar uses her bite to choke Meleys.

The episode 5 trailer hints at the aftermath of the war. Despite his injuries, Aegon has a decent chance of survival. Even though Rhaenyra has lost an experienced dragon and an important member of her little council, she shows no signs of stopping her conquest of the Riverlands, and Daemon threatens to burn houses if the inhabitants there don't submit. At the end of the film, Mysaria—who was involved in the plot of Blood and Cheese—says, "There is more than one way to fight a war," implying that the Blacks could hatch a plot just as evil in reaction to Rhaenys' death.

New episodes of House of the Dragon will be available on JioCinema every Monday morning.
