Just over a month after it dropped on OTT, debutant filmmaker Nithin Krishnamurthy’s hit Kannada film Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare is set to come to TV screens. The film, which released in theatres on July 21 and became a runaway hit, striking a chord with Kannada audiences, especially those who have lived in hostels earlier, then dropped on streaming partner Zee5 Kannada on September 15. And now, the film is finally set to come to TV. So, if you are among those who are yet to catch the film, mark your calendar, Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare will be on Zee Kannada on Sunday October 15 at 3 pm.

Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare review: Self-aware, superbly inventive, but not in its entirety

The film’s premise is rather simple, but the humorous narrative is what worked for audiences. Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare unfolds at an all-boys hostel, where the much-disliked warden drops dead one night. But not before leaving behind a note claiming that a bunch of inmates were responsible for his demise. What these students then do to steer clear of trouble forms the crux of the narrative. The film was presented by Rakshit Shetty in theatres and after a phenomenal run at the box office, was dubbed in Telugu as well. However, Hostel Hudugaru did not work for audiences there, following which it came on OTT.

But what makes the film’s Karnataka box office journey special is that it ended an almost 6-7 month drought what with audiences shunning movie halls after the two big-ticket releases of the first half – Kranti and Kabzaa – turned out to be duds. In fact, Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare’s Rs 11 crore odd gross came at a time when Hollywood biggies like Oppenheimer and Barbie were also in theatres. The success of the film gave other filmmakers who were lining up their own projects for release hope that Kannada audiences will not desert good content.
