The film has gotten off to an extremely encouraging start but the focus now shifts to the toughest leg of any film's theatrical run - the period right after the opening weekend.

A Still from Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare

Nithin Krishnamurthy's Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare has garnered extremely positive reviews from all corners, with both critics and audiences showering praise on the film for its inventive plot and superb execution. Arvind Kashyap, the man behind the lens on films like Kantara and 777 Charlie, has received plaudits for his impressive camera work and so has the entire cast of the film which includes about 12-15 principal actors and many more as part of the extended cast.

Prior to its release, Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare carried the weight of the Kannada audience's huge expectations and the reason is quite simple. The first half of the year 2023 proved to be quite underwhelming and subpar in terms of quality and not a single major box office success emerged during this period. The big-league stars such as Challenging Star Darshan (Kranti) and Upendra (Kabzaa) failed to deliver which meant that the entire ecosystem of the Kannada Film Industry slowly began to suffer.

The only silver lining, so to speak, in this regard has been Shashank Soghal's Daredevil Musthafa which earned an extremely encouraging reception for its engaging narrative. The film, which is a crowd-funded effort, also attracted praise for using revered Kannada author Poornachandra Tejaswi's short story as its source material.

So, in this vein, the box office performance of Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare was being closely watched by everyone around, including industry trackers and trade analysts. Having made a positive start to its theatrical run on July 21 with nearly Rs. 1 crore in gross collections, the film encountered a jump in earnings the following day with Rs. 1.92 crores reported by a few platforms. The significant rise in the collections reflected that the film was gaining momentum because of strong word-of-mouth publicity.

And to make things even better, we are informed by the same trade platforms that Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare has closed the opening weekend box office in Karnataka at Rs. 4.96 crores (gross).

Well, the focus now shifts to the toughest leg of any film's theatrical run - the period right after the opening weekend. It would be interesting whether the film is able to retain the same impetus and reap great rewards over the next few days.
