The movie, which has Janaki Sudheer, Amrita Vinod and Sabu Praudeen in lead roles, is set to drop on the streaming service
It’s OTT platforms galore in Malayalam these days. After the launch of several streaming services such as Matinee, First Shows, Jai Ho, Yessma and Theatre Live this year, the latest to join the list is SS Frames that will go live with Asok R Nath’s directorial Holy Wound.
The movie, which has Janaki Sudheer, Amrita Vinod and Sabu Praudeen in lead roles, is set to premiere on the platform on August 17. Holy Wound had been screened in several film festivals including Sahasrara International Film Festival, KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival and Frameline San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Holy Wound’s director Asok had told us that the movie seeks to “drive home the message of how gender does not play a pivotal role when it comes to love”. Holy Wound is also an experimental venture – a silent film – and the filmmaker had revealed that he deliberately chose to make it that way to communicate the relationship between the women protagonists in the movie.
Asok says that certain feelings transcend words and conversations, and making it a silent venture also helps the viewers focus on the emotions of the characters better. The director also explained that there was no room for controversies as the movie, at its core, is a simple story between two characters. The movie, however, does shine light on how patriarchy and men’s expectations of how women must be, leads to a suffocating society for women.
Holy Wound was initially set for an OTT release in February when the platform’s launch was initially mooted. But it has been pushed for August 17, which also coincides with the auspicious Malayalam month of Chingam. Meanwhile, Asok has completed shooting Vishnu Unnikrishnan’s Red River and Orilathanalil. He is currently working on the movie Outcast.
