A Hoichoi original Murder in the Hills is a dark thriller that will leave you in chills as you witness the grim side of the loved hill station Darjeeling. Releasing its much-awaited trailer yesterday, the upcoming series has already generated quite a hype surrounding its unusual script and note-worthy cast. Directed by Anjan Dutt, the show promises to deliver a gruesome story of lies and mystery right to our screens as we discover that every nook and corner of the hills buries a dirty secret.

A star-studded cast has been roped in to lead the project, from Arjun Chakraborty, Rajdeep Gupta, Sandipta Sen and Anindita Bose to Suprobhat Das, Rajat Ganguly and Sourav Chakraborty. With all of them playing central characters in the series, how the plot wraps itself around such dynamic roles will be worth a watch.

The trailer unveils all the players in the game: Arjun Chakraborty as The Journalist, Anindita Bose as The Teacher, Suprobhat Das as The Coach, Rajdeep Gupta as The Cop, Sandipta Sen as The Doctor, Sourav Chakraborty as The Filmmaker, Rajat Ganguly as The Writer and Anjan Dutt as The Star. In a gory turn of events, The Star is murdered, setting The Journalist on a hunt for truth that threatens to reveal all the hidden secrets and scandals, exposing the true colors of the masked murderer or murderers, where everyone seems to have a motive to commit the crime.

In an exclusive chat with The Telegraph, director Anjan Dutt gave some hints about his upcoming project. Calling the story an extremely dark one filled with complex characters, the plot is violent, full of lies and scandals and reeking in secrets. “The hills become very murky… where blood is shed and the violence of the past catches up with the present” he added.

Anjan Dutt believes that in a world where OTT is the new thing, matching his work to the global standard was pertinent. To achieve a visual appeal, he refrained from shooting in the crowded underbelly of Darjeeling, rather he filmed in areas where tourists rarely went.

Produced by SVF Entertainment, Murder in the Hills is scheduled to stream on Hoichoi from July 23.
