Sarkar marked the third collaboration between Vijay and Murugadoss,
Stills from Beast and Sarkar
Despite mixed reviews, it is expected that Beast will rake in a good collection in Tamil Nadu, thanks to the five-day weekend which started from April 13. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has been receiving appreciation for Manoj Paramahamsa's cinematography, Anirudh's background score and Vijay's power-packed portrayal of a RAW agent.
Earlier today, all eyes were on the numbers the movie has garnered from various territories. The film is said to have emerged as the new highest grosser on day one in Tamil Nadu, surpassing the star's Sarkar directed by AR Murugadoss which released in 2018.
Though two films of Vijay had released post Sarkar, both of them couldn't outsmart the humongous numbers earned by the movie. Sarkar released on the day of Deepavali, and it marked the third collaboration between Vijay and Murugadoss. The political drama had never before seen expectations from the time its first look was unveiled along with the title.
Vijay's next release was Bigil, but it was released along with Karthi's Kaithi which had good expectations among movie buffs because of its intriguing trailer. Master, which released last year, was screened with only 50 percent occupancy in movie halls. Thus both the movies failed to surpass Sarkar's gargantuan day one collections in the state.
For Beast, things were relatively easy as the movie carried huge expectations from the beginning, thanks to the box office performance of the director's previous outing, Doctor. But the mixed response and the unanimous positive response for KGF 2 is likely to dent the movie's long run prospects.
Bigil directed by Atlee which released in 2019 is reportedly the highest collecting film of Vijay till date. It looks like fans of the star should wait for his next project to surpass the feat.
