Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Annaatthe hit the screens on Diwali, November 4, 2021. Though the actor's fans said the movie 'is a family entertainer by Thalaivar,' a 'sentimental-action drama,' a 'brother-sister sentiment flick,' and so on, it failed to impress the critics. There were reports claiming Annaatthe minted Rs 200 crore at the worldwide box office.

Recently, the hashtag Annaatthe was trending on Twitter, and fans didn't know why. The makers submitted their income for the first quarter of 2022, and fans have found some facts about the film! The domestic collection of Annaatthe revealed that it has made Rs 150 crore in India. Rajinikanth fans then took it as proof to declare the film a blockbuster hit.

The film has Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Jagapathi Babu, Abhimanyu Singh, Prakash Raj, Soori, Meena, Khushbu, Bala, Kulappulli Leela and Vela Ramamoorthy, in pivotal roles. Annaatthe is a high-budget film produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures.

Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe saw the actor teaming up for the first time with director Siva, who is known for helming Ajith-starrers Viswasam and Veeram.

A family-action drama along the lines of Rajinikanth’s earlier hits like Padayappa and Arunachalam, Annaatthe was released around the time the actor abandoned his political plans due to Covid and his health situation.

The 70-year-old revealed the story behind how Annatthe came into being, in a post on voice-based social media platform Hoote. "Petta showed me in a stylish avatar and was released along with Viswasam, which was directed by Siva and starred Ajith. Both films were super-hits, and so I was very curious to watch Viswasam. Siva sounded extremely confident that it was very easy to deliver a hit with me. That left me stunned because no one has said that to me before. All he said was that I should star in a story-based film, and it should be set in a village.”

A report published in the Hindu reads, "Interestingly, within 12 days, Siva came back to meet Rajinikanth with a script. “All he asked for was two-and-half hours of my time and three bottles of water. After the narration, I started crying, and hugged him,” recalls the star, adding that Annaatthe has clicked big-time with audiences."
