The director talks about the influence of John McTiernan on him and working with Dhanush
Russo Brothers with Dhanush
The much-awaited Hollywood action flick The Gray Man is set to drop on Netflix in a few hours, and movie lovers are excited to the core. Joe Russo of Russo Brothers feels that the movie is a genuine homage to action films of the 80s, and he has a valid reason for the same.
The director, in a chat with Mint, expressed his admiration for a few Hollywood films made in the 80s, and said that he and his brother Anthony Russo have been huge fans of John McTiernan.
Joe considers the director's movies like Die Hard, The Hunt For Red October and Predator as iconic films of all time. He feels that The Gray Man is similar to those movies in terms of complexities associated with the characters in it and their motivations.
On the experience of having worked with Dhanush, Joe said that the actor's character is one of his favourite aspects in the movie. He also said that two action sequences which the actor has got to perform in The Gray Man are two of the best in the film.
According to Joe, Dhanush is extremely talented especially when it comes to pulling off stunt scenes. He said, "Among all the actors we have worked with, Dhanush is one of the few who has a knack for performing action scenes convincingly. He contributed immensely to the film's action choreography and we are really looking forward to working with him again."
Joe feels that Dhanush's character in the movie has been designed in such a manner that the role could appear as a spin-off in the future. At the movie's premiere in Mumbai today, Dhanush had revealed that he learnt a lot while prepping for the action sequences for The Gray Man.
