A year and a half into its launch, Telugu OTT platform aha has released many films, originals and web series though none of them has matched the unanimous reception of its latest show Kudi Yedamaithe, starring Amala Paul and Rahul Vijay. The four-hour-long show, directed by Pawan Kumar, was shot in a record span of 43 days in Hyderabad. Do you know it was filmmaker Nandini Reddy who was instrumental in bringing together the show's team? Here's what OTTplay found out.
It's a known fact that Nandini Reddy is an integral member of aha's core creative team. She has a say on the scripts that come aha's way, given her experience with the medium across shows like Gang Stars, Mana Mugguri Love Stories and Pitta Kathalu. She says, "There were only two scripts that I had approved for aha without having any second doubts about it - the first one was Mail and the other one being Kudi Yedamaithe (written by Ram Vignesh). I felt it was high time that Telugu audiences get to see such pathbreaking content."
Interestingly, Kudi Yedamaithe wasn't planned as a show with big names or huge scale initially. Apparently, director Pawan Kumar was in talks with aha for another series for the OTT platform. That's when Nandini Reddy had a new vision for the project and felt Pawan could be the best bet for the show. She was certain that Kudi Yedamaithe merited a bigger canvas. It took some persistence to bring Pawan on board, after which Amala Paul was cast.
The catch here was the challenging 50-day shoot duration for the show. Besides, Pawan was under immense pressure to do justice to the show especially because of the scale at which it was being made. Thanks to the director's coordination and discipline, the team finished its shoot in 45 days and managed to achieve a good-quality result. The rest, as they say, is history.
