One of the much-awaited films in Tamil this year was Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal, thanks to its stellar cast featuring Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha. The rom-com directed by Vignesh Shivan when released on April 28 in theatres opened to mixed reviews from critics.
However, many exhibitors in Tamil Nadu expressed happiness on the film's theatrical run. The movie had special shows organized after midnight even after the first day of its release. Though Nayanthara and Sethupathi had teamed up earlier for Vignesh's Naanum Rowdy Dhaan and Ajay Gnanamuthu's Imaikaa Nodigal, this was the first time Samantha joined hands with both the actors.
The film has now become the highest grosser for Vijay Sethupathi in the UK. Ahimsa Entertainment, which distributed Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal in the country along with Hamsini Entertainment, has officially announced the same through their social media handle. The movie is also Vignesh's highest collecting venture in the UK.
It's been a while since Sethupathi has had a clean hit at the box office. Though Lokesh Kanagaraj's Master was a successful movie, it was primarily a Vijay-starrer and the latter carried the film on his shoulders.
Sethupathi has Maamanithan, Vikram and Viduthalai among a few other projects in different languages in his kitty. Nayanthara, on the other hand, has O2 and Connect in Tamil, apart from a Malayalam film with Prithviraj, Telugu movie with Chiranjeevi and Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan.
Samantha has Yashoda and Shakuntalam awaiting releases while Vignesh Shivan is gearing up to direct Ajith in his next outing. Tentatively titled AK 62, the project will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions. It is billed as the biggest movie in the filmmaker's career. An announcement on its cast and crew details is expected to happen later this year.
