The film stars Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu in the lead
It seems more or less official! Director Mari Selvaraj's upcoming film, Maamannan, is all set to hit screens in June as a summer release. The film stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh, Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Interestingly, Maamannan will be Udhayanidhi's last film as an actor. Soon after Udhayanidhi was appointed as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Tamil Nadu, the actor, producer and distributor announced that Maamannan was his last film. He also announced that his film under Kamal Haasan's production house, too, has been dropped.
Maamannan is a political thriller and one of the most-awaited films of the year. Udhayanidhi Stalin had earlier said that the titular character was played by the ace comedian Vadivelu and that his role is so power-packed that he might win an award for the same. The film has music by AR Rahman and Maamannan marks his maiden collaboration with both Udhayanidhi and Mari Selvaraj. The team had recently dropped pictures from the set on the occasion of Mari Selvaraj's birthday.
The shoot for the film took place in Chennai and Salem for over 100 days and the post-production work is in full swing. Mari Selvaraj had earlier shared a picture of Vadivelu dubbing for his portions. In the meantime, the digital rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix India. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada after its theatrical release.
In the meantime, Udhayanidhi Stalin's long-delayed Kannai Nambathey is all set to hit screens on March 17. The film, directed by Mu Maran, of Iravukku Aayiram Kangal fame, has been long in the making, for as long as four years. The crime thriller has Udhayanidhi Stalin, Aathmika, Prasanna, Srikanth, Bhumika Chawla, Vasundhara, Subiksha to name a few. Kannai Nambathey is expected to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
