Here's when GV Prakash, Gautham Menon's action thriller, Selfie, will hit the screens

Debutant filmmaker Mathi Maran's Selfie stars GV Prakash and Gautham Menon as its protagonist and antagonist respectively. Its first look and first single were unveiled by Vetri Maaran. Mathi was an assistant director to Vetri earlier. The makers had released its trailer three months ago. The movie revolves around admission scams in engineering colleges and how students' lives get affected due to it.

The team has now come up with its theatrical release date; the film will hit the screens on April 1. GV Prakash himself has announced the news from his Twitter handle. He tweeted, "#selfie releases on April 1st in theatres … @theVcreations thanu sir… watch out for this stunning debutant director @MathiMaaran (sic)."

Varsha Bollamma plays the female lead in the movie which has been produced by D Sabareesh under DG Film Company. Veteran producer Kalaippuli S Thanu has acquired the theatrical rights of the project which has cinematography by Vishnu Rangasamy and editing by Elayaraja S.

Rambo Vimal and AR Mohan have helmed action sequences and art direction respectively, while Arivu and Jayashree Mathi Maran have penned lyrics for songs in the film. Azhar has choreographed dance sequences for the movie which has Vaagai Chandrasekar, Sangili Murugan, Thangadurai, Subramaniam Shiva, Sam Paul and Vidya Pradeep among others essaying important roles.

Venkat Prabhu's Ashok Selvan-starrer rom com, Manmadha Leelai, is another Tamil movie which has announced release on April 1. Looks like filmmakers are busy slotting their releases before April 14 as many big budget movies are expected to arrive afterwards.

GV Prakash's last outing was Vasantha Balan's underwhelming film Jail. The music composer-turned-actor currently has half-a-dozen projects in his kitty as an actor and more than 10 movies as a composer.
