Kanaa, which released towards the end of 2018, had marked the directorial debut of actor-lyricist Arunraja Kamaraj. Aishwarya Rajesh played the lead in the movie which was produced by Sivakarthikeyan's production house. The actor also played a cameo in the movie, which went on to become a critical and commercial success. The project was his first production venture.
The movie was later remade into Telugu under the title Kousalya Krishnamurthy. Aishwarya played the lead in the remake, too. Sathayaraj, Ilavarasu, Darshan and Namo Narayana among others essayed pivotal characters in the original version. The film's story revolves around a middle-class girl who hail from a family of farmers. How she aspires to become a cricketer and goes on to achieve her dream forms the crux of the story.
Now, after more than three years, Kanaa (streaming on Zee5) is getting ready to hit the screens in China, on March 18. Producer Sivakarthikeyan himself announced the news from his Twitter handle. He tweeted, "Super happy to share that our @SKProdOffl 's debut film #Kanaa is now all set to release in China on March 18, 2022. A proud moment for our entire #Kanaa team (sic)."
He also attached a poster of the movie's Chinese version. Director Arunraja and Aishwarya, too, expressed excitement over the same on their respective Twitter handles.
Earlier, Vijay-starrer Mersal (streaming on Zee5 and Netflix) was in the news pertaining to its wide release in China. However, the makers couldn't because of the outbreak of COVID. Will Kanaa be the first Tamil movie to release in the country?
Karthi's Kaithi (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar) was recently in the news for its theatrical release in Russia. The movie is expected to hit the country next month. The makers had unveiled posters and trailer for the Russian version as well.
