The digitalised version of the 2002 release, helmed by Suresh Krissna, was released on the occasion of Rajinikanth's birthday last year
It looks like Superstar Rajinikanth is quite excited with the response to the re- release of his 2002 film Baba. The actor was seen beaming with joy and he presented a memento comprising a portrait of Babaji to the film's team, including the film's director Suresh Krissna. He also met up with the team at his residence and clicked a picture with all of them. The pictures are now doing the rounds on social media. It's not often that you see a film's re-release setting the cash registers ringing at the box office.
The digitalised version of the film was released ahead of the occasion of Rajinikanth's birthday last year. There was an air of revelry in the air as fans of the actor thronged the theatres to celebrate the big occasion. The makers had also trimmed the runtime of the film by a few minutes and had changed the ending to cater to the audience of the current generation.
The plot of Baba revolves around a carefree youngster who grows up to be atheist, but is considered a reincarnation of a saint, who is a devotee of Mahavatar Babaji. Rajinikanth played the titular character and Manisha Koirala played the leading lady in the film. The rest of the star cast includes Sujatha, Goundamani, Ashish Vidhyarthi, MN Nambiar, Vijayakumar, Sayaji Shinde, Delhi Ganesh, Crane Manohar, Karunas, Riyas Khan and Deepa Venkat to name a few. A number of actors made a special appearance in the film, including Ramya Krishnan, Raghava Lawrence, Prabhu Deva, Nassar, Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi.
The film had music by AR Rahman and the songs turned out to be chartbusters, including Maya Maya, Kichhu Tha, Sakthi Kodu, Dippu Dippu and Baba theme to name a few. While the cinematography was by Chota K Naidu, editing was by VT Vijayan. On initial release, Baba had opened to mixed reviews and met with a lukewarm response at the box office.
