Here's how much Thalapathy Vijay's action flick Beast collected on first day at Kerala box office

Vijay in Beast

Vijay's Beast opened to huge numbers in Kerala where the star enjoys a crazy following since Thullatha Manamum Thullum which released in 1999. The film directed by Nelson had around 3,000 shows played in the state on day one, including special fan shows and late night shows.

Needless to say, this is a remarkable feat; it surpassed Mohanlal's Odiyan which had around 2,000 shows on day one, thus emerging as the number one movie in the state to have the highest number of shows on day one. Beast went on to become the second highest collecting film on day one in the state with a reported figure of over 6 crores, and ended up as the highest grossing movie on day one in 2022, surpassing Mammootty's Bheeshma Parvam.

But it looks like the release of KGF 2 in a huge number of theatres today has slightly affected Beast. The theatrical rights of Beast were sold for around 8 crores and the movie should earn around 17 crores to achieve breakeven at the box office.

The trade is looking forward to seeing how much the film could collect in the long run. Sarkar was the last film of the star which received mixed reviews after which its collection witnessed a drastic drop in Kerala from second day.

With no other notable Malayalam films releasing for the next two weeks, it is expected that Beast will achieve breakeven comfortably in the coming days. The movie has two connections with Kerala; actors Shine Tom Chacko and Aparna Das who appeared in brief roles in it hail from the state.

Vijay's last outing Master was the first film to bring cheer to theatre owners in Kerala during the pandemic era. The blockbuster project was the first movie which was screened in many theatres after movie halls were shut down for several months owing to the pandemic.
