According to reports, the Academy’s crew did not give SS Rajamouli and the team free tickets in order to the event watch the event live
The year 2023 will definitely be etched in gold in the memory of all the cinema lovers and Indians. The reason? Well… this is the year when filmmaker SS Rajamouli and his team of the cult film ‘RRR’ created history. Besides the fact that the film ‘RRR’ went onto create new records at the box office, it also won two of the most prestigious awards in the form of Golden Globes and Oscars. While the Golden Globes awards were held in January this year, the prestigious Oscars were held this month. ‘RRR’s globally famous track ‘Naatu Naatu’ went onto bag the ‘Golden Globe’ for ‘Best Original Song’ and also at the Oscars for the ‘Best Original Song’.

Speaking of Oscars, did you know that RRR's makers had to actually shell out money to attend the Oscars! Yes... you heard it right. As per a news report in Economic Times, The entire cast of the film, from the director to the lead actors, attended the Oscars 2023 red carpet. According to reports, the Academy’s crew did not give SS Rajamouli and the team free tickets in order to watch the event live. The same report stated that the only people who were granted free admission were the ‘Naatu Naatu’s composer and lyricist of the song, MM Keeravani and Chandrabose and their wives. The rest of the team had to pay a fee to watch the Oscar ceremony. As per the Academy Awards crew, it stated that while awardee and their family members only would be eligible for a free pass, rest everyone else had to pay for a ticket to watch the event live.

That explains the reason why SS Rajamouli had to purchase tickets for himself and other team members. The cost of each ticket was a whopping $25,000 USD which gets translated to Rs. 20.61 lakhs (approximately). Even though SS Rajamouli had purchased the ticket, its being said that he was given the last row in the event hall. Even the Academy association was heavily criticized for giving them seats near the exit gate.
Amidst all this, a report in India Today states that, when they got in touch with Team RRR, they told them that the report was false.
