Henry’s Crime released back in 2010 and is one of the most underrated Keanu Reeves film out there.
The world right now knows Keanu Reeves as the superstar who walks on the set in his crisp suits, ready to take down a village of bad men single-handedly with no weapons and a pencil for rescue, maybe (you got the reference). He is a star you associate with massive movies set on a certain scale, and there is no way you would think otherwise if one looks at his recent filmography. But surprisingly, that is not the case. Reeves has also been a star who has managed to do some of the most nuanced and loved independently made movies too. One such example of this is Henry’s Crime. The movie that was released back in 2010 is back in the news, and we must thank Lionsgate Play.
Starring Keanu Reeves, James Caan, and Vera Farmiga in the leading roles, Henry’s Crime is one of the most unique Keanu movies in the world of cinema at this point. It is a thriller, a love story, a tragic tale, and a whole lot of things. It turns out it is about to have a new life on streaming in India as we speak. Lionsgate Play has just revealed that they are all set to rerelease the movie on their platform, and below is everything you should know about the same.
Lionsgate Play has been busy giving us films and shows from various parts of the world. Henry's Crime has now been added to the upcoming movies list, joining Room, Arcadian, Devotion, Blood for Dust, and American Hustle. While there is no update on the release date, it is safe to assume that it is not making it to the platform in July and will have an August 2024 release. It will also be available for streaming with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
Henry’s Crime is a very interesting subject that was made back in 2010. The film is directed by Malcolm Venville and is about an aimless guy who ends up in prison for a bank robbery that he never committed. He is found guilty and has to serve the sentence. He comes out and then decides to rob a bank for real. But wait, there is a twist too: he has now fallen in love, and there is no escape.
As per Collider, talking about making a movie like that back in 2010, Keanu Reeves said, "Yeah. About 7 years ago I decided to try and develop my own material, and here we are in 2010. Making this film in 2009, while having a script, trying to raise the money, and go independently. To me, it was not out of circumstances, but trying to have another way of performing and getting material. In this 'new environment' you don’t have domestic distribution. That’s part of what being an independent movie is. Sometimes you can get picked up by Sony or Fox Searchlight. Sometimes, they make films, but not all the time. I don’t know, to me, it’s just another way to make a movie."
Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
