Hemanth M Rao on Charan Raj & Sapta Sagaradaache Ello: 'Idea is to never take it for granted'
One of the main highlights of Hemanth M. Rao's body of work so far has been composer Charan Raj's music. Even though the two have worked only twice so far - on Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu and Kavaludaari - one spots something very special and their collaboration and audiences, especially, have come to trust that each time they get together, they will deliver another really unique output. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, therefore, stands today as one of the most-awaited films of the year not just because of the cast it boasts but also the fact that Charan Raj would have weaved his magic yet again.
And one could assume that Hemanth Rao recognizes what the composer brings to the table and designs his narratives in such a way that music becomes an integral member.
"Charan is such an exciting collaborator because I love to tell stories through music. It could be in the form of a montage or just to take the narrative forward with the help of music - I did exactly that in both Godhi Banna and Kavaludaari. In Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, there's a touch of poetry in the way music is employed. I feel it's a very distinct feature of the film," said Hemanth M. Rao in a recent Twitter space discussion.
It is also true that the two are not repeating their collaboration for the sake of comfort or convenience but to mainly create a sound that's genuine and unlike anything before.
"The two of us have not attempted to do anything "normal" or regular right from our first film together. There's always the effort to create a fresh sound and the rap treatment in the song Horaata (the first single from Sapta Sagaradaache Ello) seemed to fit the story and its ethos really well. But I wanted some kind of melody to be part of the song and I feel if there's someone who could take that really unusual request and still deliver an amazing sound, it's Charan Raj. We wanted to imbue Kavaludaari with a jazz sound and try out fusion music in Godhi Banna. So, similarly, you will find that there's an attempt to explore something very new and unconventional in Sapta Sagaradaache Ello as well. Nothing's been done with a 'taken for granted' approach," added Hemanth.

In the same vein, Hemanth M Rao disclosed that if the rap song pertained to one specific situation in the film, there's an upbeat, peppy number, also an intense song and lots more that's explored. Both parts of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello - namely Side A and Side B - will have six songs each.
