Hema Malini admits it was 'embarrassing' to sit on Dev Anand's lap during Johny Mera Naam's shoot

Veteran actress Hema Malini has worked with the biggest celebrities in Indian cinema. Throughout her film career, Bollywood's Dream Girl has delivered successful movies. She is still remembered for some of her movies including the 1970 release, Johny Mera Naam. The track Pal Bhar Ke Liye of this project is etched in everyone's heart.
For the unversed, Malini shared screen space with Dev Anand in Johny Mera Naam. And recently, at an event, she recalled an embarrassing moment from the shoot.
Hema Malini felt embarrassed to sit on Dev Anand's lap
The 74-year-old actress made an appearance at the Jaipur Dev Festival. It was held to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of her co-star Dev Anand. At the event, the senior actress went down memory lane and opened up about an 'embarrassing' moment from Johny Mera Naam's shoot.
While shooting for the song O Mere Raja the actress had to sit alongside Anand in a rope chair near Nalanda, Bihar. However, since they got stuck, Malini felt embarrassed to sit on her co-star's lap.
"There was a scene where we were supposed to go in the rope chair. The sequence was such that he is sitting already and I have to sit in another chair but because I miss it, he makes me sit on his lap. That was very embarrassing for me, in real life also, and in the film also I am feeling very uncomfortable," recalled Hema.

Spilling more beans about the shoot, she added, "So the shot started and the rope chair was moving but right in the middle, it stopped. The electricity was gone. I said, "Dev saab, I can’t sit like this". I didn’t want to put my whole weight on his lap. It was very very uncomfortable."

Johny Mera Naam was directed by Vijay Anand. Besides Hema Malini and Dev Anand, the film starred Pran, Jeevan, Premnath, Padma Khanna and others in pivotal roles.
