Sanjay Leela Bhansali fans, anxiously peering their eyes for any, and all updates on the legendary filmmaker’s upcoming web series Heeramandi are in for an exciting development. According to reports in the National Herald, actress Wamiqa Gabbi is reportedly going to be on board for the upcoming Netflix series.

Bhansali had made the announcement recently that he is partnering with Netflix for helming the project, which is touted as an epic period drama chronicling the lives of Lahore’s mystical courtesans. Set in the pre-independence times, the show promises all the visually stunning elements and period-piece nuances that are typically found in the filmmaker’s works.

Ever since her Hindi debut in Jab We Met the multi-lingual Wamiqa Gabbi had caught Bollywood’s eye, finding her feet in the industry with her role in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22. She has also made her mark in the web series with her impeccable performance in Hotstar’s Grahan and her upcoming role on Netflix’s Baahubali: Before the Beginning. In Heeramandi, which is said to be in the pre-production stage, Gabbi will be seen alongside seasoned actresses such as Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha and Manisha Koirala. The former will reportedly essay the role of a strong female character on the show.

Heeramandi is set to be a vastly ambitious project for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, as he had revealed to Variety. He had reportedly been holding onto the idea for the unique premise for almost 14 years and was enthralled at the project finally taking a shape. The series is said to revolve around the themes of politics, betrayal and love, he added.
