Former Dancing With The Stars host recalled the time when he felt idiotic after giving his unsolicited advice to the then-contestant Simone Biles. Although the embarrassing incident dates way back to 2017, the celebrity dance reality show host discussed his intention in detail in a new podcast (via Sex, Lies and Spray Tans)

What was the unkind remark?

For the unversed, Tom Bergeron passed a remark at gymnast and contestant Simone Biles after her performance at the talent reality show in 2017. The incident dates back to the Season 24 of the dance show.

Looking back at the unfortunate incident, the 68-year-old TV personality has now tried to clear the bad air and admitted his fault for passing the unsolicited advice to smile, a moment he now regrets.

"Now what woman wants to hear a guy say, 'Hey, sweetheart, smile! The moment it came out of my mouth, I thought, 'Oh, you [idiot]," recalled Bergeron.

During an episode of Season 24 of Dancing With The Stars participant Simone Biles delivered a rocking Paso Doble performance with her dance partner, Sasha Farber. However, it received critical feedback from the judging panel. Biles, who secured fourth place in the show was disheartened with the unexpected response. In order to drift away from the heat of the moment, Tom Bergeron remarked, “I was waiting for you to smile at some of the compliments. You didn’t.” What followed later became Tom's regretful moment. Hitting back at the remark, the Olympic gold medalist said, "Smiling doesn't win you gold medals."

"I was so properly put in my place..."

Reflecting on his stark comment, he now admitted that he spoke before thinking it through. The game show host later commended Biles for her blunt response. He said, "I was so properly put in my place." The talented gymnast quashed the on-air clash with the show's host after the two took to social media and posed a picture together. In the post, Biles is wearing a t-shirt that quotes her infamous reply.

Season 32 of DWTS premiered in September 2023 with a new host and participants.
