Heard this? Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi could very well be India's official Oscar entry this year

Not just Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai but SS Rajamouli's RRR is also a strong contender to represent India at the Oscars this year, according to an entertainment news portal.

We all know that SS Rajamouli's magnum opus RRR has been considered as India's official entry for Oscars' consideration under the Best foreign Film category next year. But, according to a news article by Pinkvilla, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi is also a strong contender for the coveted spot.

Other than the aforementioned names, Bollywood director Vivek Agnihotri's controversial directorial venture The Kashmir Files and actor R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect are also believed to be in the race for making it to Oscars' long list of nominations from India.

The film, starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, has amassed over 200 crore INR at the box office and has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike for her splendid performance. SLB, too, was lauded for his depiction of the revolutionary sex worker and social activist. It was based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

RRR starring Ram Charan and NTR Jr. had a theatrical release on March 25 this year and made a total of over 1,000 crore INR, according to Pinkvilla, within 16 days of its global release.
