HBD Chiyaan Vikram: Makers of Thangalaan release gritty and action-packed tribute video to the actor
On the occasion of actor Vikram's birthday on Wednesday, the makers of the upcoming Tamil film Thangalaan released a tribute video showing glimpses from the making of the film and behind-the-scenes footage of Vikram. Thangalaan is a period action film, directed by Pa Ranjith.
In the video, one can see footage of the harsh conditions that Vikram went through while shooting the film. Actor Vikram, who is known to go to great lengths to get into the skin of his characters, is shown to be clad in loincloths, having long hair and rustic make-up and doing action sequences. From glimpses of the film, Thangalaan promises to be a gritty, action-packed film that will once again showcase the performative side of Vikram.
Thangalaan is a period film set against the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields and is said to explore the origins of the place. The film marks Vikram’s first collaboration with Ranjith. The film is backed by Jio Studios, Studio Green and Neelam Productions. Earlier, the film was scheduled to release in January but was postponed. A release date for the film is yet to be announced. However, the film is expected to be out in the latter half of 2024, mostly after the election results in Tamil Nadu.
Besides Vikram, the film also stars Parvathy Thiruvottu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, British actor Daniel Caltagirone, and others. GV Prakash has scored the music for the film, with Netflix bagging the post-theatrical rights. Thangalaan will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Tamil Praba has co-written the film, which was shot by cinematographer Kishor Kumar. Selva RK has worked on the edits.
Meanwhile, after Thangalaan, Vikram will be seen joining forces with Chittha director SU Arun Kumar for a film tentatively titled Chiyaan 62. The film also stars actors SJ Suryah, Dushara Vijayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu in prominent roles.
