Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to re-release with Magical Movie Mode

2021 marks twenty years since the most famous wizard in popular culture stepped into celluloid with the theatrical release of Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone, the beloved film that was based on the first book of J.K. Rowling’s record-breaking children’s fantasy novel series. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular film franchises of all time, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will re-release Harry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD with a new Magical Movie Mode for Potterheads and movie maniacs around the world.

The new edition with the magical movie mode will be available for purchase on August 17.

Ever since the unassuming, innocent Harry played by Daniel Radcliffe debuted on-screen, ‘the boy who lived’ has never since left our hearts but this new release will allow "fans to rewatch Harry's first adventure in a whole new way." The film will include special graphic and audio features on select scenes to pepper your re-watching experience with fresh vistas and a wave of nostalgia.

Expect to be regaled by hilarious, insightful, and informative commentary from director Chris Columbus, who also subsequently went on to direct Harry Potter and the Chamber Secrets and bankrolled Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Fans of the franchise will love the deleted scenes of the film and there is also a quiz on a variety of subjects related to the film to test your geeky knowledge of Harry’s world. The announcement on Pottermore stated that Potterheads are in for an immersive nostalgic ride with "filmmaking secrets, spell incantations, trivia, fun activities, and curiosities."

The fantasy family adventure franchise of the 7 blockbuster Harry Potter films got the perfect magical beginning in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in particular, along with the whole cast of the franchise became household names and have been majorly known ever since.

Awe-inspiring magical moments, on-point performances, underscored by the brilliant musical score by Chris Williams made the film an unforgettable movie-watching experience when it was released in 2001. The film was positively received from both critics and fans and got three Oscars nominations at the 2002 Academy Awards. It clinched quite a few BAFTA Film Awards in 2020 and won the Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award at the 2002 Art Directors Guild Awards.

The Magical Movie Mode edition of the film only adds to the joy of Potterheads, coming after the announcement of a global tour exhibition that will open in Philadelphia next year. There is also the upcoming debut of a one-part production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child(a two-part British play scripted by Jack Thorne based on the original story by J.K. Rowling) to eagerly look forward to.

The celebrations for Harry’s screen debut turning 20 don’t end here, as Wizarding World has dropped a word on more delightful announcements to follow the re-release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
