Director Ram Arun Castro has churned out a film based on India's first ever policeman. The historical drama has Kaali Venkat, Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan, Ram Arun Castro, Gowthami Chowdhry, Nicolas Fluster and Pichaikkaran Moorthy as part of the star cast. The film traces the history of India's postal service and the first postman.

Ahead of the film's release on August 25, the team has released a video in which Steve Borgia, historian and author, throws light on the history of postal services. In the video, the ace historian is seen saying, "The next generation has no idea who a postman is and they will ask who it is. I did research on a book, which revolved around the forgotten first runner, the postmen, who were then called Harkara or Thabaalkaaran."

He added, "When the British came to Calcutta and settled down here, their very first employee was a postman. They almost lost their lives doing the job. There was this policeman who spent 69 days atop a tree, because there was a tiger below preventing him from doing his job."

Steve Borgia says that the earliest postmen donned multiple hats. "They would even read out the letters because there was no one else who could read. Their name could be anything, but they would be called Raasa. They were a critical part of the lives of people. They would not only get them medicines and take them to hospitals, but they would also look for grooms and brides. Their salary would have been a mere Rs 7 at that time but look at the amount of service they provided. They were the nucleus of the society. Sadly, we have forgotten the heritage and history of policemen."

The historian also had a few words on the film, Harkara. "I have done a lot of research on the subject. The film is simple just like the film." Harkara is produced by Kalorful Beta Movement.
