According to a report in DT Next, R Chidambaran had filed a case against Harkara in the Madras High Court seeking a permanent ban on the film stating that he was not given the due credits in the film. According to Chidambaram, the film was originally titled Oatta Thooduvan and that he and Ram Arun Castro had equal shares in the project. His counsel stated that Castro had added a couple of scenes in the film, renamed it to Harkara, and taken solo credit as the writer and director. The film's release was then postponed.

However, now we hear that all decks have been cleared and that Harkara is gearing up to drop in theatres tomorrow (August 26). The film traces the history of India's postal service and the first postman, and is presented by the makers of V1 Murder Case.

The plot of the film is set in a mountainous village in Theni where a new postman arrives. One day, when he listens to the story of Harkara, India's first ever postman, his life changes forever. While Kaali Venkat plays a postman of contemporary times, Ram Arun Castro plays the Harkara. The trailer was released by post men and post women in Tamil Nadu.
